What Is Presbyopia?
There may be some confusion with these symptoms being thought of as long-sightedness (known as hyperopia), but the two concerns are different in cause.
With hyperopia, it’s the shape of the eyeball / cornea that means light is bent irregularly and far away objects appear blurred. With presbyopia, it’s the flexibility of the natural lens that is the cause, as it becomes less supple and compliant.
Presbyopia can be diagnosed through regular check-ups with an optician, who will identify the condition as a result of an eye examination. When a prescription for glasses is issued, patients may find they have a plus sign before the number (sphere), which may be between 1 and 3.
What Are the Causes of Presbyopia?
This Condition is thought to be caused by general ageing. In the same way that the body becomes less agile and able to perform as it used to, so can the eyes. General wear and tear, as well as tired muscles, can lead to a decrease in the function of the eye and its structure.
What Is the Treatment for Presbyopia?
Whilst there may be no permanent solution for presbyopia, Prema can help to ease the symptoms and increase clarity of vision. Laser eye surgery using LASIK or RLE can help to improve near vision, however, many people get the results they desire with the use of reading glasses.
